Courtney’s Quill, August 2010
Summer is in full swing, and I’m loving it. My tomatoes are starting to ripen, my zucchini is overwhelming my actual love of squash, and little eggplants are starting to form. My garden is what keeps me refreshed every summer, and though I’m no master gardener, I love how much I learn each year about the life process of plants. It’s also a good reminder about life in general—birth, growth, mistakes, disease, and eventually death. I feel like I understand the universe so much more after summer ends.
But the end of summer is not near yet, and this summer we at Women’s Press want to remind you once again of Day With Creative women, being held August 14th in Mission Plaza. It is surely a day you don’t want to miss. Please see our spread in this issue. And come out and support the Women’s Community Center, who puts this event on for the community. It’s their biggest fundraiser, and without the WCC, Women’s Press would not be still going strong, as well as all the other great things they do for the community.
Also, a reader sent me in a thought provoking question for this issue’s Voices Around the Table: Do you think the institution of marriage is outdated? I’d love to hear your responses, so please send me them at womenspress. slo@gmail.com. You can find this months Voices responses on page 18.
And finally, this is our annual creative issue, so please take a look at pages 8 and 9 to see all our great entries. I love receiving all of this. It makes me realize how many talented women and men we have in this community.
Enjoy your summer. Enjoy gardening. Enjoy watching the life cycle. And please enjoy our little Press.
