The Jack family lived in the Historic Jack House for nearly 100 years. It has en many a decade since anyone occupied the old place. Strange noises have been heard emanating from these old walls. Could ghosts be hidding in the closets or wondering down the stairs?
Take a tour , learn a little of the family history and maybe more.

Movie "The Hunger Games" at the Senior Center

Mark Lakeman, activist, architect, and award-winning visionary, will give a presentation Friday, October 19th at 7:00pm at the SLO County Library. Lakeman, co-founder of Dignity Village, the City Repair Project, and Communitecture, Inc. designs viable, sustainable, and beautiful communities for all.
He will talk about Dignity Village, built by and for previously homeless people in Portland, Oregon, now in it's twelfth year, and how a similar model is being developed here on the Central Coast.
Please join us to hear this amazing young architect give an inspirational presentation on how to help end homelessness in our time.

Critically Acclaimed New Orleans Band in Avila Beach for Conscious Halloween Event
Festivities include Mantra Music, Electronic Dance and Mystical Costume Contest
September 24, 2012, (Avila Beach, CA) Critically acclaimed New Orleans mantra musicians Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band come to Avila Beach to play at Sukha Wellness Center, 6615 Bay Laurel Pl, Avila, CA on Wednesday, October 31st, 2012. The Halloween Kirtan and Dance will feature special guests TROPO, the local Electronic Dance Music sensation. Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band is scheduled for 7pm and TROPO at 9pm. The best mystical costume award will be presented.
Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band’s music is part of a trend that brings mantra music into the mainstream– giving the ancient sounds a contemporary voice that transcends musical, cultural, and sectarian boundaries. Yoga Journal describes the band as “A joy to listen to whether you’re a yogi or anyone who appreciates wildly creative music.” With the rising interest in yoga as not only a practice, but a lifestyle, a growing appetite for inspiring new music has been fostered. The practice of kirtan, a powerful chant based music, has been steadily gaining popularity in the west and has been featured recently in The New York Times, Time Magazine, and NPR’s All Things Considered
Reviewer Lloyd Barde of Common Ground Magazine in San Francisco writes, “Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band’s music is a veritable kirtan cauldron of simmering, bubbling, delectable chants. The gumbo feeling they bring from the gulf jives well with the musical blendings that bring to mind Grateful Dead jams, a little Santana spice in the percussion section, and an all around endearing space that draws you in with each listen.”
TROPO will follow the kirtan act with an ambient set of electronic dance music sure to entice revelers to their feet. An Architect, a violinist, a craftsman, a poet, and an Egyptian Shaman make up TROPO, a LIVE ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC (EDM) group
from the central coast of California. Composer/producer Tyson Leonard records, loops, and layers soaring violin and electronic vocal effects over driving beats by Jeff Schneider and Ahmed Fahmy. Grant Leonard and Ryan Johnson accompany with spectral pads, atmospheric pedal steel and crunchy bass oscillations. EDM is having a huge impact on music lovers worldwide and TROPO is taking it to the next level by infusing the human element in their all original, energetic, and completely live performance.
As kirtan is a devotional practice and Sukha is a wellness center, there will be no alcohol at the event and guests are encouraged raise their vibration naturally! Mulled cider and festive tea will be served

Festival After Dark and Red Skunk Band hosting a “Garden Swing Party” in Morro Bay!
FestivalAfterDark, in partnership with The Red Skunk Band is presenting the “GardenSwingParty”
on Saturday, August 18,2012.
Join in the fun at 1:30p.m.at Hwy41 Antique Emporium Garden Area (located adjacent toMiner’s Hardware Morro Bay store).
The Garden Swing Party will feature the hots wing jazz sounds by The Red Skunk Band (MorroBay), gypsy jazz tunes by
“ The World’s Finest Apples” quintet (Sacramento), and swing dancing performances by the SLO Swing Dancers (SanLuisObispo).
The party will take place in the Hwy 41 Antique Emporium backyard garden area (previously occupied by Miner’s Hardware Morro Bay store, now located next door), and promises to transports guests back in time to experience a “quaint European afternoon garden party”.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase; wine will be available at the Red Zeppelin Winery Tasting Room (located on site). The Literacy Council for San Luis Obispo County has an ongoing and urgent need for volunteer tutors.
Our 2-part, Tutor Training Workshop will take place on Saturday August 18th and Saturday August 25th, at the Literacy Council’s office, 1264 Higuera Street, Suite 102, from 9:00am to 3:30pm. A $25 enrollment fee is required at your first session.
